The Imam Maajid Faheem 'Ali Leadership in Service Scholarship

A merit-based essay scholarship

for Muslim graduates

As Salaam Alaikum!

The immediate family of Imam Maajid Faheem 'Ali has established a merit-based essay contest entitled the Imam Maajid Faheem 'Ali Leadership in Service Scholarship (IMFALSS).  The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage Muslim Americans to pursue higher education by providing qualified applicants with funds to help them achieve their educational ambitions.  During his lifetime, Imam Maajid 'Ali placed a strong emphasis on the pursuit of higher education with his children and students he encountered.  Moreover, he was at the forefront of numerous Islamic-based and community engagement initiatives during his 40 years as Imam of Masjid Jihad, Inc. (Savannah, GA).  In his honor, recognizing young Muslims who exemplify leadership in service to their community, is of significant importance.

Eligibility and Requirements

 

 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD AMOUNT

The total award is $3,500*. Scholarships will be awarded to 2 recipients.  Funds will be distributed as follows: 1st place - $2,000, and 2nd place - $1,500.

 

Once recipients are selected, and final documentation complete, a check will be mailed to each awardee, made out to their respective institutions. The award is to be used for educational purposes only. 

 

APPLICATION PERIOD AND DEADLINES

Application materials must be submitted electronically by 11:59 PM on June 15, 2024.  Late submissions and incomplete packages will not be considered.  

 

The application period for the 2024 Imam Maajid Faheem 'Ali Leadership in Service Scholarship is as follows:

  • Application Open:  March 12 - June 15

  • Application Review: June 23 - June 30

  • Awardees Announced: July 2

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 

Scholarships are granted without regard to the applicant's ethnicity or gender, although efforts will be made to ensure equity and fairness is given with regard to the distribution of funds.  Applicants must be:

  • Muslim women and men

  • 2024 Graduating high school Seniors

  • GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Entering Freshmen in the 2024 - 2025 academic year

 

APPLICATION MATERIALS

Applicants must submit a complete application package to receive consideration for the award. The application package is this application form**, which includes:

  • Essay Question 

  • Transcript

  • 2 Letters of Recommendation (1 letter should be from a Masjid representative or Masjid community member who is NOT an immediate family member)

  • Résumé (should include documentation of leadership in service)

 

*Award amounts may be up to the full award amount, based on the quality of the application
